As we say goodbye to a turbulent winter and welcome spring, I want to update you on the work your OASOTN board has accomplished this year.
In November OASOTN held an Ethics training for mental health and intervention professionals with presenter Dr. Eric Johnson from the Oregon Forensic Institute at the Multnomah Juvenile Department. This training was very informative and received enthusiastic reviews.
This month we are very excited to be launching our new OASOTN website. The website will allow us to increase our online presence, offer an informational portal and show case our trainings and annual conference. We hope that you find it helpful and user friendly. This project would not have been possible without the hard work of Board Member Bryan Ferguson and our Web Designer Josh Rudzek at Rudtek incorporated.
Finally I want to formally invite you to our 2017 Annual Conference in Newport, Oregon. The conference will be held May 1-3 at the Best Western Agate Beach Inn. After months of planning, we are so close to opening one of our best conferences ever! Phil Rich is returning to the Northwest, to serve as our Keynote Speaker. Phil holds a doctorate in applied behavioral and organizational studies and a master’s degree in psychology. Phil has over 30 years of experience in the field and has been providing consultation nationally and internationally on work with sexually abusive youth since 2000. Phil will also present a plenary session addressing the application of attachment theory with sexually abusive youth. Elizabeth Vermilyea, Ph.D. will be traveling to us from Ventura, California to speak at our Pre Conference Seminar on Trauma-Informed Care. Elizabeth has worked exclusively with trauma survivors and the people who advocate for them since 1991. She will also be presenting a workshop on the creative use of the Illuminations Exhibit, a unique training aimed at deepening awareness and understanding of the reality of child sexual abuse. These two exciting presenters will be joined by twelve additionally talented speakers who will offer workshops on a wide range of topics from the Three Facets of Wellness to Porn Addiction.
As I said, this is going to be one of our Best Conferences and I hope to see you at the beach May 1-3!
